S-193 Lock on Lake Okeechobee North Shore Reopened to Boat Traffic

West Palm Beach, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) today reopened the S-193 navigation lock at Taylor Creek to boat traffic entering and leaving Lake Okeechobee.

The lock had been closed to navigation since Monday following several inches of rainfall north of the lake over a few hours. SFWMD used the lock to assist the S-133 pump station with flood control operations.

Falling Kissimmee Lake Levels May Force S-61 Lock Closure

Kissimmee, FL – As levels in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes continue to fall due to lack of rain and high evapotranspiration rates, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) plans to stop operation of the S-61 (Southport) navigation lock on the south shore of Lake Tohopekaliga once the downstream water level falls to 48.5 feet above mean sea level.

The water level immediately downstream of the S-61 lock is currently at 49 feet above mean sea level and could be at 48.5 feet within several days if dry conditions persist.

C-15 Canal Clearing Project to Improve Flood Protection in Palm Beach Co.

West Palm Beach, FL – To help ensure flood protection for hundreds of thousands of Palm Beach County residents, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will begin work this week to clear trees and overgrown vegetation from SFWMD-owned land along a stretch of the C-15 Canal bordering Delray Beach and Boca Raton in southern Palm Beach County.

SFWMD to Host Industry Day for C-43 Reservoir Project on May 7-8

West Palm Beach, FL – Ahead of bidding for a major construction contract, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is hosting an Industry Day next week for the Caloosahatchee River (C-43) West Basin Storage Reservoir project. The purpose of the event is to improve the construction industry's understanding of the District's requirements for the project and answer general questions.
