SFWMD Takes Additional Action to Send Water South Under Direction of Gov. Rick Scott and Issuance of Emergency Order

Rick Scott and an emergency order issuance by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) today implemented an array of new actions adding to current efforts already underway to lower lake levels and move more water into the conservation areas caused by record May rainfall.

Governing Board Approves Budget Amendment to Fight Lygodium Spread

West Palm Beach, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board today approved a budget amendment that will clear the way for up to $2 million per year in federal funding to help fight the spread of invasive Lygodium, also known as the Old World climbing fern, in the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in western Palm Beach County.

SFWMD Has Temporarily Closed Public Access on L-6 Levee

West Palm Beach, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) has temporarily closed public access to the L-6 levee at the G-336G structure, a point commonly known as "Sportsman's Crossing" in western Palm Beach County, starting today, May 31, due to high water concerns from recent heavy rainfall.

Sportsman's Crossing, which provides public access to the western side of Water Conservation Area 2A, will be closed until further notice.

With Kissimmee River Water Level Set to Increase, Boat Owners Encouraged to Secure Boats

Okeechobee, FL – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has requested South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to increase S-65D headwaters by one half foot per day beginning today, May 26, 2018, with a target of reaching 27.3 by Sunday, May 27, 2018. The current elevation sits at 26.2. The purpose of holding the water back is to help protect restoration projects in progress. Residents north of S-65D should secure their vessels and prepare for the river to rise.
