Today, City of Pahokee Mayor Keith Babb presented the “Key to the City” to the South Florida Water Management District (District) for their assistance with cleaning up the blue-green algal blooms at the Pahokee Marina. In addition to the City’s efforts to combat algae in the marina, the District also turned on brand-new circulator pumps to keep the water moving at the Pahokee Marina and aid in the prevention of new blue-green algal blooms.
Provide public comments on plan that serves as blueprint for efforts to balance water resource management priorities through 2027
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), as part of its ongoing efforts to increase transparency and public engagement in water management decisions, is encouraging the public to review the draft 2022-2027 Strategic Plan and submit comments.
When severe weather approaches South Florida, our staff closely monitor the storm and prepare the water management system for excessive rainfall. Canals are lowered to allow the flood control system to operate at full capacity, and our professional staff coordinate with local governments to strongly encourage all local drainage districts to prepare their systems for excess stormwater.
Today Gov. Ron DeSantis joined the South Florida Water Management District to celebrate the completion of an important milestone for Everglades restoration: the removal of nearly six miles of the Old Tamiami Trail roadbed!
