The South Florida Water Management District cancelled the Rulemaking Meeting for the proposed Lower West Coast Restricted Allocation Areas for the Sandstone and Mid-Hawthorn Aquifers. This meeting was scheduled for May 8, 2026.
The District continues to closely monitor the Sandstone Aquifer and the Mid-Hawthorn Aquifer and will continue to coordinate with our partners, local governments, stakeholders and the public in any efforts to protect the water resources in the Lower West Coast of Florida.

The plan will assess current and projected water needs in the UEC Water Supply Planning Area through 2050. The planning area includes all of Martin and St. Lucie counties, and the northern portion of Okeechobee County.
