These future meetings are critical to ensuring the long-term success of this endangered bird of prey in South Florida.

SFWMD Moving Water in Anticipation of Additional Weekend Rain from Tropical Disturbance

Orlando, FL – South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) gates and flood control structures in the Upper Kissimmee Chain of Lakes are operating at maximum practical capacity to lower water levels in anticipation of a tropical disturbance passing over South Florida. The disturbance is expected to drop heavy rains over areas still recovering from high water caused by Hurricane Irma. The SFWMD is coordinating with local water managers and drainage districts to prepare for the storm's expected impacts.

SFWMD Installs Temporary Pump to Alleviate BCB Flooding Caused by Irma

Golden Gate Estates, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) installed a pump that will aid in the ongoing efforts to alleviate flooding caused by Hurricane Irma in the Big Cypress Basin (BCB).

The 30-inch pump has been installed and will move water near Golden Gate Weir #2 which is located just west of Interstate 75 in the Golden Gate Estates area of Collier County. This pump will lower water levels at a location near the intersection of the main Golden Gate Canal and Interstate 75 Canal.

Reminder: Temporary Closure of S-135 Lock on Lake Okeechobee Scheduled for Sept. 25

Okeechobee, FL - For boaters navigating to and from Lake Okeechobee, a temporary closure of the S-135 navigation lock at J&S Fish Camp in Martin County has been scheduled for Monday, Sept. 25. This closure will last one day and is necessary to complete maintenance work for the lock that began in August.

SFWMD Moving Water to Protect Communities in Upper Kissimmee

West Palm Beach, FL – To protect homes and businesses in the Upper Kissimmee Chain of Lakes area, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is moving as much water as possible out of the region.

Water managers are taking additional actions as lakes continue to rise from a combination of direct rainfall over the area during the last 24 hours and immense stormwater runoff from Hurricane Irma.
