SFWMD Issues Strict Guidelines for Landscape Irrigation Amid Drier Conditions

Following irrigation guidelines will conserve water and protect South Florida’s water resources during the region’s dry season.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) today issued an order on water conservation measures with strict guidelines to property owners to follow irrigation schedules that conserve water amid drier than average conditions.

Final Reminder: Online Workshop and Business Meeting Today and Tomorrow

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board invites the public to participate online for its upcoming Governing Board Workshop and Monthly Business Meeting today and tomorrow, respectively. 

Both the Workshop and Business Meeting will be held online only using Zoom, a free online meeting tool. The Workshop will take place today at 1 p.m. and the Business Meeting will take place tomorrow, April 9 at 9 a.m.

SFWMD Temporarily Closing Public Access to Some District Lands to Protect Public Safety, Reduce Potential Spread of COVID-19

As part of its ongoing efforts to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 and protect public safety, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will temporarily close public access for recreation to several District-managed properties, effective at 6 p.m. (ET) on April 1, 2020

The District is following the guidance of Gov. Ron DeSantis, the Florida Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to minimize activities that result in gathering of large groups of people. 

SFWMD Temporarily Closing Lake Okeechobee Navigational Locks to Protect Public Safety

March 30, 2020

Four locks on north shore of lake are closed and hours restricted at fifth lock for safety due to lake conditions.

Today, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) closed four navigation locks on the north shore and reduced the operating hours of a fifth lock because of lake conditions. Injury and lock damage could occur when boats pass through these structures when lake levels are outside of designated safety limits.
