SFWMD to Hold Online Water Resources Accountability and Collaboration (WRAC) Public Forum

The District encourages the public to watch and participate in its online WRAC Public Forum tomorrow at 10 a.m.

The District is seeking public and stakeholder input on the District’s vegetation management practices, including the use of herbicides on aquatic vegetation, as part of the agency’s effort to engage the public on topics of public interest.

Big Cypress Basin Board Invites Public to Participate in Online Board Meeting

The Big Cypress Basin Board encourages the public to watch and participate in its online Basin Board Meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m.

The Big Cypress Basin Board oversees a network of primary canals, 35 water control structures and three pumps providing flood control during the wet season and protecting regional water supplies and environmental resources during the dry season. The basin includes Collier County and part of Monroe County.

SFWMD Governing Board Declares May 17-23 Water Reuse Week

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board at its regular business meeting today officially recognized May 17-23, 2020 as Water Reuse Week.

The annual recognition, signified by a purple jacket worn by one Governing Board member to represent the purple pipes that carry reclaimed water, is made by the Governing Board each year to highlight the ongoing efforts to encourage the use of reclaimed water. Today, Chairman Chauncey Goss passed the ceremonial purple jacket to Vice Chairman Scott Wagner.

Public Encouraged to Submit Written Comments Online Ahead of May 14 Business Meeting

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board is encouraging the public to participate in this month’s monthly board meeting on Thursday, May 14. As part of the District’s efforts to increase public engagement, the public can submit written public comment ahead of the meeting online in addition to providing spoken public comment during the meeting.

SFWMD Hosting Online Workshops for Northern Everglades and Estuaries Water Quality Rule

The Northern Everglades and Estuaries Protection Program directs the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the South Florida Water Management District to work together to reduce pollutants and achieve water quality standards in the Lake Okeechobee, St. Lucie River, and Caloosahatchee River watersheds through Basin Management Action Plans and the Total Maximum Daily Loads program.

SFWMD Announces Reopening of Several District-Managed Lands

Today, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) announced that it will begin reopening several District-managed lands for active recreation only (hiking, biking, exercising, etc.) tomorrow, April 30, 2020 at 8 a.m. 

In reopening these lands, the District will continue to follow the recommendations of Gov. Ron DeSantis' Re-Open Florida Task Force, the Florida Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to minimize activities that result in gathering of large groups of people.

Online Meetings for Remainder of April

The South Florida Water Management District is conducting public meetings for the remainder of April online to protect the public from the potential spread of COVID-19. The public can watch and participate in public comment using the free conference tool Zoom.
