Hurricane Isaias Update

South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Executive Director Drew Bartlett provided an update on District operations in preparation for Hurricane Isaias earlier this afternoon from the District's Emergency Operation Center.  

Effects of the storm may begin to be felt by portions of Florida's southeast coast as early as this evening. Based on current forecasts, we are proactively lowering our canals to pre-storm levels to allow the flood control system to operate at full capacity if needed.  

Lee County Irrigation Restrictions Rescinded

Recent rains and efforts by residents to conserve water have resulted in increased water levels.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is rescinding the current District-issued irrigation restrictions for residential and landscape, golf course, recreational and agricultural water users in Lee County. Irrigation restrictions by local cities and Lee County still apply.

Governing Board Encourages Public to Submit Written Comments Online

As part of the District’s efforts to increase public engagement, the public can submit written public comment ahead of the meeting online, in addition to providing spoken public comment during the meeting.

SFWMD Removing Barrier to Moving More Water South

Removal of Old Tamiami Trail roadbed, expected to be completed in 2022, will restore flow of clean freshwater south.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is hard at work removing of a 5.5 mile section of Old Tamiami Trail in Miami-Dade County, a priority Everglades restoration project identified by Gov. Ron DeSantis to restore the natural flow of clean freshwater south.
