SFWMD Relocating Okeechobee Service Center Starting Monday, December 17

Okeechobee, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is relocating its Okeechobee Service Center to a new location at 316 NW 5th St., Okeechobee, FL 34972.

The existing service center location at 3800 NW 16th Blvd. will close on Friday, Dec. 14, to facilitate the move. The new service center will open on Monday, Dec. 17.

Prescribed Burn Planned on Lake Okeechobee on Dec. 12

Moore Haven, FL – A prescribed burn will be conducted on 3,000 acres of Lake Okeechobee between the Moore Haven Canal and Sportsman Cut on Wednesday, Dec. 12, to improve fish and wildlife habitat on the lake.

This will be done as a joint effort by the South Florida Water Management District, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with SFWMD acting as the prescribed burn manager and the FWC and USACE assisting.

Moore Haven, FL - A prescribed burn will be conducted on 8,000 acres of Lake Okeechobee east of the Moore Haven Canal on Monday, Dec. 3, to improve fish and wildlife habitat on the lake.

Without Delay, SFWMD Begins Work on Everglades Agricultural Area Storage Reservoir

South Bay, FL – Today, approximately 18 months after the Florida Legislature and Gov. Rick Scott approved a state law expediting the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Storage Reservoir, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) began construction of the project.

SFWMD officials, including Governing Board Chairman Federico Fernandez and Executive Director Ernie Marks, held a ceremony at the site to commemorate the project's rapid start.

SFWMD Governing Board Approves Lower East Coast Water Supply Plan Serving 6 Million People

Miami, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board on Thursday approved an update of the Lower East Coast Water Supply Plan, a blueprint to ensure there will be enough drinking water for the more than 6 million residents of South Florida's Lower East Coast region. The Lower East Coast Water Supply Plan directly protects water sources in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties and parts of Monroe, Collier and Hendry counties for the next 20 years.
