As part of our flood control mission, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) operates and maintains more than 2,175 miles of canals from Orlando to the Florida Keys. Keeping these canals clear of debris and vegetation, especially on their banks, ensures the regional flood control system works to protect our neighborhoods and communities.

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. - Today, the South Florida Water Management District along with the National Park Service broke ground on the Taylor Slough Flow Improvement Project within Everglades National Park. This environmental restoration project will allow more clean, freshwater to flow south through Taylor Slough and onto Florida Bay, where it is needed to balance salinity levels and promote ecological health.

The S-135 Boat Lock on Lake Okeechobee at the J&S Fish Camp in Martin County will be temporarily closed to navigation for routine inspections next week on Wednesday, February 1 and Thursday, February 2, 2023.
