The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is using its extensive database of water and climate data to help ensure the resiliency of South Florida’s water resources – now and for future generations.
Did you know the SFWMD tracks and documents trends in water and climate data to guide its resiliency planning and make enhancements to water management infrastructure? These science-based metrics provide information that is helping us implement innovative adaptation strategies and resilience solutions throughout the SFWMD's 16-county region.
The SFWMD continues to make significant infrastructure investments that support a more resilient South Florida and ensure we continue to carry out our mission of safeguarding South Florida’s water resources and ecosystems, protecting our communities from flooding, and meeting the region's water needs.
The metrics used to help inform SFWMD’s resiliency priorities include:
- Hydrologic data, including regional rainfall patterns, evapotranspiration, groundwater levels, and minimum flows and water levels
- Tidal elevations at coastal structures
- Water quality data
- Salinity levels in the Everglades and Biscayne Bay
- Estuarine and mangrove inland migration
- Soil subsidence
The SFWMD's online Resilience Metrics Hub makes it easy for the public and stakeholders to explore SFWMD’s water and climate metrics and information. The hub features real-time data and interactive story maps.
Ensuring the resilience of South Florida’s water resources and ecosystems is part of everything the SFWMD does. We encourage you to learn more about the SFWMD's multi-scale resiliency initiatives.
