Okeechobee, FL – The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) resumed normal operations today at five navigation locks on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee after commercial power to those structures was restored following Hurricane Irma:

Naples, FL – On Thursday, Congressman Francis Rooney participated in the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD) ‘Python Elimination Program’ in Big Cypress Swamp. The Congressman was successful in capturing and eliminating a total of five invasive pythons - two adults and three hatchlings, during the hunt.

The S-61 navigation lock, also known as the Southport Lock, is returning to service. The S-61 enables boating navigation between Lake Tohopekaliga and Cypress Lake via the C-35 Canal in Osceola County.
Service will begin at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 24. The navigation lock's normal operating hours will be 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week, and 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the weekend.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission requested the South Florida Water Management District close the S-61 Boat Lock because of navigational safety concerns. The S-61 enables boating navigation between Lake Tohopekaliga and Cypress Lake via the C-35 Canal in Osceola County.
Closure is effective at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 14. The lock will reopen when conditions allow for safe navigation.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will close the S-65D boat lock on the Kissimmee River in Okeechobee County for underwater inspections by divers.
The lock will be closed on April 9 beginning at 6 p.m. and be reopened April 12 at 7 a.m.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will close the S-193 lock at Taylor Creek on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee for underwater inspections by divers.
The lock will be closed March 20 and March 21, 2017.
