District officials are available for media interviews to discuss how the District prepares and what the public needs to know about expected heavy rainfall. SFWMD Closing Public Access to Recreation Land Because of Hurricane Dorian

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will temporarily close all SFWMD-managed land and all land managed in partnership with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to public access at 5 p.m. today. Information on all reopenings will be posted on SFWMD.gov/Recreation once available.

UPDATE: All SFWMD-Managed Navigation Locks Temporarily Closing Saturday

For boaters navigating to and from Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River and Upper Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will temporarily close all navigation locks it operates in preparation for the impact of Hurricane Dorian.

The locks will be closed at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, unless changing conditions warrant closing them earlier for public safety. The locks are closed during hurricanes to ensure the safety and SFWMD staff of the public and protect the locks from damage.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Hurricane Dorian may impact South Florida as a Category 3 storm as early as this weekend, and the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD)'s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is at the Enhanced Monitoring level. Today, the SFWMD is continuing to collaborate with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, local drainage districts, municipalities, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

SFWMD Advances Important Priority Restoration Project, Applies for Permits to Construct C-139 Flow Equalization Basin

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) continues expediting progress on key priority projects identified by Gov. Ron DeSantis to restore and project South Florida's environment and water resources. Today, SFWMD applied for permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Florida Department of Environmental Protection necessary to construct the C-139 Flow Equalization Basin (FEB).
