SFWMD Governing Board Gives Thumbs Up to Facebook

The District today joined more than 1.8 billion social media users around the world on Facebook. The SFWMD Facebook page will provide a new online hub for project and program updates, water conservation and flood control tips, event listings, emergency management information, close-up looks at staff at work and much more. 

Four Navigation Locks to Close When Lake Okeechobee Falls Below 12 Feet

For boaters navigating to and from Lake Okeechobee, the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will soon close four navigation locks on the north shore for safety reasons. The imminent closures are a result of persistent drier-than-average conditions that have reduced water levels in Lake Okeechobee. Injury and lock damage could occur when boats pass through these structures at water levels below any of the designated safety limits.

SFWMD Governing Board Issues Water Shortage Warning

West Palm Beach, FL – Falling water levels and extremely dry conditions that are expected to linger led the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board to issue today a water shortage warning to all 8.1 million residents in the agency's 16 counties.

"The purpose of this warning is to urge South Florida families to voluntarily conserve more water," said SFWMD Governing Board Chairman Dan O'Keefe. "This effort will help your water supply last through the remainder of the dry season."

Financial Stability Continues as SFWMD Receives AA Credit Rating

West Palm Beach, FL - Taking into account the South Florida Water Management District's (SFWMD) low debt, solid reserves, financial flexibility and ample available expenditure options, Fitch Ratings Inc. affirmed an Issuer Default Rating of 'AA' and a Certificates of Participation rating of 'AA-.' The credit rating agency cited SFWMD's overall operations budget and project flexibility as major reasons for a stable outlook.
