OKEECHOBEE, Fla. - The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the S-191A Pump Station, the final component of the Lakeside Ranch Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) Project. This project is one of the priority Everglades restoration projects identified by Gov. Ron DeSantis in his "Achieving More Now for Florida's Environment Executive Order."
The project will increase the flow of water south to the Everglades and mitigate flooding in the Las Palmas community.
The South Florida Water Management District held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an underground seepage wall in the 8.5 Square Mile Area (Las Palmas Community). The underground concrete wall will help mitigate flooding in the 8.5 Square Mile Area, keep water in Everglades National Park, and support increased flows of water south which are necessary for Everglades restoration.
Today, City of Pahokee Mayor Keith Babb presented the “Key to the City” to the South Florida Water Management District (District) for their assistance with cleaning up the blue-green algal blooms at the Pahokee Marina. In addition to the City’s efforts to combat algae in the marina, the District also turned on brand-new circulator pumps to keep the water moving at the Pahokee Marina and aid in the prevention of new blue-green algal blooms.
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) will begin the second phase of its project to removal shoal and sediment from the C-24 Canal in St. Lucie County on June 14. The project will stretch from State Road 70 to Orange Avenue west of Fort Pierce and is expected to last a year.
The C-23, C-24 and C-25 Shoal Removal Project will remove an estimated 448,000 cubic yards of sediment from the canals, improving conveyance in the canals to support flood protection efforts for local residents.

Public access to the L-67A Levee over the S-151 Structure in western Broward County will temporarily close starting June 21. Public access is expected to be closed until September 2021.
Access is restricted due to construction activity on the S-151 Structure. Construction will continue on the structure through May 2022, and public access is expected to be restored by September 2021.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is currently accepting applications for cost-share funding for projects that develop alternative water supply (AWS) or implement water conservation. The SFWMD and the State of Florida continue their efforts to identify and implement cost-effective strategies to protect water resources while meeting Florida’s water needs. Partnering with local governments and other entities for implementation of water conservation projects and development of alternative water projects is an important and effective way to help accomplish this goal.
As part of our ongoing effort to increase public participation and engagement, the South Florida Water Management District encourages the public to provide input on the Final Draft 2021 Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) Science Plan.
The final draft plan is available for public and peer review at SFWMD.gov/ASR. Public comments can be submitted via email at ASRwells@SFWMD.gov through March 7, 2021.
