Momentum Building for Sending More Water South, Blasting Begins for Canals at EAA Reservoir Project Site

SOUTH BAY, Fla. - The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) reached another milestone today in the ongoing effort to expedite the EAA Reservoir Project. Blasting began on the project site for the canals needed to deliver water into the 6,500-acre Stormwater Treatment Area (STA) component of the project. This important Everglades restoration project reduces harmful discharges to the northern estuaries from Lake Okeechobee and sends more clean water south to Everglades National Park and towards Florida Bay.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Isaias and preparing your water management system for potential rainfall. Based on current forecasts, we are proactively lowering our canals to pre-storm levels to allow the flood control system to operate at full capacity if needed. The current forecast suggests that Tropical Storm Isaias will move over South Florida late Saturday through early Sunday.
