The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Jacksonville District for a virtual Project Delivery Team (PDT) Meeting on the Central and Southern Florida (C&SF) Flood Resiliency Study. An overview of the current and projected hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling outcomes for the Central and Southern Florida (C&SF) Flood Resiliency Study will be presented. In addition, the SFWMD and USACE will request input on the dissemination and formatting of the H&H model output data for use by the PDT in assessing performance.

GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE DISCUSSED: 
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (USACE) will be hosting an update on the Western Everglades Restoration Project (WERP) on April 17, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) station, Southwest Florida Research & Education Center, 2685 State Road 29 North in Immokalee, FL. The USACE / South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) team will provide an update to the project since the last public meeting on January 17, 2024. This will be an “Open House” style question/answer period where USACE and SFWMD staff will be able to interact with attendees.

The purpose of the WERP is to improve the quantity, quality, timing, and distribution of water needed to restore and reconnect the western Everglades ecosystem. Public engagement is encouraged.

WERP will reestablish ecological connectivity from the northwest portion of the study area, across the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Big Cypress Reservation and into Big Cypress National Preserve, while maintaining flood protection and ensuring that inflows meet applicable water quality standards. The proposed action is located within Hendry, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Collier counties, Florida.

GENERAL SUBJECT MATTER TO BE CONSIDERED:  
The 2025 Central Florida Water Initiative (CFWI) Regional Water Supply Plan (RWSP) Team will be holding a virtual technical methods workshop. The workshop will cover the technical data and modeling tools anticipated to be used to support the 2025 CFWI RWSP.

St. Johns, Southwest and South Florida Water Management District staff are in the process of completing the final analyses needed to develop the 2025 CFWI RWSP. The 2025 CFWI RWSP is anticipated to be available for public review in early 2025. The final 2025 CFWI RWSP is scheduled to be approved by the governing boards of the three Districts by the end of 2025. The CFWI Planning Area consists of all of Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Polk counties and southern Lake County, covering approximately 5,300 square miles. The 2025 CFWI RWSP will identify existing and projected water needs as well as projects and funding sources to meet those needs over the next 20 years. The 2025 CFWI RWSP is the second five-year update to the 2015 CFWI RWSP and is a collaborative effort between the Districts and key stakeholders.
