Statement Re: Modeling for EAA Storage Reservoir Project
photo of Lake Okeechobee near Ritta Island

Oct. 25, 2017

"The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is holding meetings on an aggressive timetable over the next three months with interested parties and stakeholders to ensure their comments are taken into account as staff develops modeling, evaluates options, assesses performance and creates the plan for the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA) Storage Reservoir project.

"Public input is a necessary part of this process and is an essential piece for achieving the federal cost share requirements identified in Senate Bill 10. Performing modeling to support a specific result without public input could be seen as circumventing federal planning requirements and jeopardize hundreds of millions in federal cost share.

"SFWMD will have modeling results ready for public release by late December 2017."
