SFWMD. SOUNDSCIENCE. Tortoises. Facebook Live.

November 8, 2017

West Palm Beach, FL – Nearly 20,000 people watched on Facebook Live as Dusty "The Wildman" Crum collected his bounty on a colossal snake during the South Florida Water Management District's (SFWMD) Python Elimination Program.

Now, SFWMD's SOUNDSCIENCE podcast is going Facebook Live in a new endeavor to keep the public informed about the incredible science being done to protect South Florida's water resources. Tune in on Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. on the SFWMD Facebook page.

SFWMD wildlife biologists Brian Garrett and Holly Andreotta will bring the public along live to check on a gopher tortoise community in St. Lucie County. The animals are threatened in Florida, and the two biologists are tasked with ensuring they are protected while SFWMD upgrades a nearby structure that provides flood protection for Martin and St. Lucie counties' human residents.

Garrett and Andreotta will take questions live as they conduct the check.

Submit Your Questions

The public is also welcome to submit science questions about gopher tortoises in advance for the biologists to answer live. Email SFWMD Media Relations Representative Gabe Margasak at gmargasak@sfwmd.gov, or comment under the link to this news release on Facebook.
