The southeastern shores of Lake Okeechobee, the "Wild and Scenic" Loxahatchee River, the Lake Worth Lagoon and the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge – the northernmost portion of the Everglades – can all be found within Palm Beach County's vast boundaries. In addition to working with our partners to protect and restore these natural water resources, the South Florida Water Management District provides flood protection and safeguards the water supply for more than 1.3 million residents and businesses in the county.
Outreach and Intergovernmental Representatives develop partnerships with local governments and drainage districts, utilities, community groups and other stakeholders in Palm Beach County and create a better understanding of local water resource issues through outreach and education activities.

Hillsboro Canal Bank Stabilization Project
The South Florida Water Management District has begun a multiyear effort to ensure a 7.6-mile section of the Hillsboro Canal can continue to provide adequate flood protection for residents of Palm Beach and Broward counties. The project will improve the stability of canal banks that have eroded over decades of service, and it will restore the canal to its designed capacity by dredging accumulated sediment. The project is scheduled to begin in June 2013.
The District will be hosting an information session on the Hillsboro Canal Bank Stabilization Project for Palm Beach County residents. SFWMD project managers will be available throughout the session to answer questions on the project.
