The Kissimmee Basin encompasses a diverse water supply planning region that includes parts of the Orlando metropolitan area, the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, Kissimmee River, Lake Istokpoga and Indian Prairie.

The water supply planning process peers 20 years into the future to predict population growth and the trends in agricultural to determine the water-supply needs well into the future. With modeling tools that assist in the understanding of current water supplies, the water supply planning process determines how much "new" water is needed through the development of alternative water supply strategies.
