Office of Ombuds & Open Government

The Office of Ombuds and Open Government, headed by District Ombudsman Carolyn L. Williams, provides Florida citizens a central point of contact for timely responses to inquiries, complaints concerning actions or inactions of the District and to make public records requests.

The office works with District management and staff as well as responsible external agency sources to address citizen concerns and requests.

The District Ombudsman provides a neutral, confidential point of contact for individuals or citizen groups seeking assistance when regular channels of communication prove insufficient.

"This is another step toward ensuring the State's largest water management district is accountable and transparent," said South Florida Water Management District Executive Director Carol A. Wehle. "The District takes its responsibilities to the Florida taxpayers seriously. The Office of Ombuds and Open Government will provide Floridians with centralized access to the District and allow this agency to continue to improve its operations, policies and decision-making through feedback from our constituents."

In accord with Governor Charlie Crist's priorities, the office will promote transparency and accountability ensuring that incoming written correspondence and verbal inquiries receive a timely response.
