All projects are funded, designed and built to accomplish water resource related actions to support South Florida Water Management District's mission and allow compatible public access. The use by the public is secondary but remains recognized as a valuable aspect of each project's benefits. Projects will likely be closed during dark and some portions of a project may not be open to the public. Public access will be managed to ensure each project succeeds at the intended mission while offering compatible recreation opportunities.
Each project will develop it's own character and appeal to different activities among those who frequent it. The actual activities resulting from access provided to the public are expected to vary and may be managed somewhat differently among similar project as an area matures. Local partners and volunteer groups are encouraged and their participation and interests will effect how a project is managed for recreation.
In March 2004 the District's Governing Board adopted a policy establishing a committment to the responsible planning, management and promotion of public recreational access and use on District lands.
