Every day is Demanding, Challenging, and Rewarding.
Maria Clemente
I've been with the South Florida Water Management District for 20 years, and today I am Section Leader in the CERP Engineering Department, which means that I provide overall project management for several ongoing projects with combined design and construction budgets totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. I came here because I was impressed with the reputation of the agency, the caliber of the staff, and the professional development opportunities, and my first impressions were correct. I've been able to take advantage of many training opportunities offered by the District to advance my career, and some of my closest personal friends are from the relationships I have developed through the District.
In my job, the good days seem to outweigh the difficult ones and I am usually able to find some value or a lesson in each experience that will help me in the future. Along the way, I've had a couple people at SFWMD who have mentored me at critical points in my career. To them I want to say, "Thank you".
On a daily basis, I like the interaction with all the different people -- of all different specialties and perspectives -- that it takes to pull a project together. I enjoy being a part of a team that gets things done, and I really feel that no other organization would have given me the opportunities to work on such great projects. Right now, I can't imagine working anywhere else other than South Florida Water Management District.
