Kenneth G. Ammon
Deputy Executive Director,
Everglades Restoration

Ken Ammon was named Deputy Executive Director of Everglades Restoration in June 2005.

In this position, he oversees implementation of the agency's entire range of projects to restore the greater Everglades ecosystem – including the Northern Everglades and Estuaries initiative, the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan and the District's suite of expedited water quality and restoration projects. District-wide land acquisition, project planning, engineering/design and construction, along with critical computer modeling and permitting efforts, are also housed within this resource area.

In 2003, Mr. Ammon was appointed Director of the Ecosystem Restoration Department, and oversight of the planning, design, and implementation of the $10.5 billion Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program and the Kissimmee River Restoration Program. In 2004, he was named Assistant Deputy Executive Director, responsible for expediting the design and construction of a suite of fast-tracked projects known as "Acceler8" to achieve environmental benefits 20 years ahead of schedule.

Mr. Ammon joined the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) in 1991 as a Senior Engineer, and since that time has held a variety of management positions in regulatory, planning, water supply and ecosystem restoration specialties. In 1995 he became Deputy Director of Regulation, which included water use, surface water, and environmental permitting. From 1999-2003, Mr. Ammon was named Director of the Water Supply Department, which included Regional Water Supply Planning, Consumptive Use Regulation and Rule Development, Water Conservation, Alternative Water Supply Grant Programs, and Regional Hydrologic Modeling. Under his direction, the District completed its first four Regional Water Supply Plans and seven Minimum Flows and Levels for Priority Water Bodies. His team also completed a white paper which defines the technical process and policy implications of establishing Reservations of Water for the Environment under federal and state law.

Mr. Ammon was vice-president of an engineering firm from 1976 to 1991 and worked on a wide variety of projects throughout the state. He is a graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology and has been a professional engineer registered in the state of Florida since 1983.
